12 Jun Palm Beach County doctor reacts to new Alzheimer’s drug
ATLANTIS, Fla. — ‘A good first step to combat this dreadful disease’
A Palm Beach County doctor dedicated to finding a way to slow down Alzheimer’s in patients is excited to hear a new drug to help slow the progression is getting a thumbs-up from experts.
Dr. Mark Goldstein is a founding member and president of the JEM Research Institute in Atlantis.
He’s excited to hear the Alzheimer’s drug, donanemab, was just endorsed by a committee of independent advisers to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Officials said the drug slowed cognitive decline in patients in the early stages of the disease.
“You can’t be anything less than excited for what is an incremental step,” Goldstein said. “It’s not a cure, but it is a good first step to combat, you know, this dreadful disease.”
The FDA will make the final decision on approval later this year.
